Main area of focus in Caring for the Destination:
It focuses on the involvement of local people and support of the community and the development of the city.
Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative:
The ancient majestic house, which nowadays is the Hotel La Merced, was constructed in the middle of the 18th century. It was the scenery of many battles and its history is linked to the colonial Cartagena. In 1897, the ancestors of Don Sabas Pretelt Martinez bought it and restored it by adding late colonial and republican elements to its original architecture.
Hotel La Merced has been the pioneer in the creation of boutique hotels in Cartagena by fostering the reconstruction of old colonial houses to adapt them to tourism and at the same time to contribute to the improvement of the city.
Hotel la Merced has an excellent local staff, which has the aim to deliver absolutely attentive and personalized services to their clients.
Additionally, Hotel la Merced supports the foundation against child abuse ¨La Muralla Soy Yo¨ (the wall is me) in conjunction with the Canadian Embassy.
